EASY WAYS TO WASH YOUR DOG

It is important that as you keep yourself clean, so should your dog be. If your dog is irritable/itch able or stinks, then it’s bath time for your pet. You can take your dog to a groomer for proper cleaning or for regular baths; you can do it yourself at your home. If you have a larger dog, you may prefer to bath it outside. Generally, dogs do not like to be bathed, but if done regularly while you talk and interact with them, they’ll eventually start liking it.

Before you start bathing your dog, go to a local pet store and find the shampoo that best suits your dog’s skin and hair type. Make sure it doesn’t sting its eyes and relieves the scratchiness of your dog. Also, select drying towels and hair brush which are appropriate for your dog.

Your next step before you start bathing is to select the perfect location where bathing your dog can be the easiest. You can either do it in your yard, with a hose or in a bath tub. Whether you decide to shower or bath your dog, always get your dog wet by rinsing it with water. This makes the lathering easy.

When you start applying shampoo and lathering up your dog, always start with the head, being careful of not getting the shampoo in its eyes. The best way is to move from head downwards, all the dirt would go down, thus leaving your dog clean. Clean the dog’s face at least 2 to 3 times as eye secretions and food make it dirty. Clean the ears carefully, with wet towel, as they are a popular site where fleas gather. As you lather the remaining of your do’s body, pay attention to areas it cannot clean itself such as its tail, neck, ears and belly.

Keep the shampoo on for as long as instructed by the bottle. Then, rinse off the shampoo and scrub in order to get the shampoo off from inside as well. Make sure that all the shampoo is rinsed off otherwise it will create dandruff.

Once you are done rinsing your dog, make sure that you give it some space to shake itself. After it’s done shaking, dry your dog with a towel thoroughly. Clean the ears properly with the towel’s edges. If need be, you can also use a dryer to dry your dog after toweling. Dogs love being dried with a dryer especially during winters. Leave your dog for half an hour so that it can further dry itself. Then brush your dog’s hair properly. Discard the extra hair in a bag otherwise they’ll be blowing all over your place!

There are dog perfumes available at pet stores that you can use after your dog is dried. Vets provide ear drops if your dogs are prone to ear infections. Moreover, it is also very important that your dog’s ears are free of hair inside them.

You can ask your vet for specific bathing instructions as per your dog’s breed.
